The definition of the elastane
Elastane is the tow with high elongation and resilience. The most classic definition is: "A kind of fiber that at room temperature, the material is repeatedly stretched to at least twice its original length, and after the tension is released, it can quickly restore to the original length." And for polyurethane materials, it refers to a kind of fiber which is stretched to the original length of three times, and after tension is released, it can quickly restore to the original length. In addition, in different countries and regions, there are some other definitions.
Among a host of product varieties with different functions, elastane, as a "sunrise industry", plays an irreplaceable role in such aspects as the wearing comfort, softness and warmth of clothing by giving human good touch feeling, and thus occupies a stable position in the global textile industry. Besides, it has been an inevitable trend to endow textile fabrics with some elasticity in the textile industry.
The types of common elastane
1. Alkene kind elastane (rubber thread)
Diolefins elastane is commonly known as rubber thread or elastic thread, the elongation of which is generally between 100 % to 300 %. The main chemical component of it is sulfide polyisoprene. It has good high-temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance, wear-resistance and other chemical and physical properties, which is widely used in socks, ribbed cuffs and other knitting industries. Rubber thread is a kind of elastane used in the early stage. Because it is mainly made into coarse yarn, its use in weaving fabrics is limited.
2. Polyurethane fiber (spandex)Polyurethane elastane refers to a kind of fiber made of a block copolymer with polycarbamate as the main component. Spandex is the earliest developed and most widely used elastane with the maturest production technology.
