How Does Crystallinity Affect the Properties of Nylon 6 Sheets?

The crystallinity of nylon 6 chip should be strictly controlled for spinning, and can be customized according to the customer’s application. We believe that the crystallinity directly affects its five aspects of performance.

1. The mechanical properties of nylon 6 is affected

With the increase of crystallinity, the tensile and bending strength of nylon 6 as well as its hardness, stiffness and brittleness will increase, while the toughness and ductility of the material will decrease.

2. The density of nylon 6 and its products is affected

The density ratio of nylon 6 crystalline region to amorphous region is 1.13:1. The higher the crystallinity of nylon 6 is, the higher the density will be.

3. The optical properties of nylon 6 chip is affected

The refractive index of the polymer material is related to the density. Nylon six is a semi-polar polymer. The crystalline region and the amorphous region coexist, and the refractive indexes of the two are different. The light is refracted and reflected at the interface of the two phases, and the higher the crystallinity is, the lower the transparency will be.

4. The thermal properties of nylon 6 is affected

If the crystallinity of nylon 6 reaches more than 40%, the crystalline regions will connect to each other to form a continuous phase throughout the material, and the glass transition temperature increases. Below this temperature, it is more difficult to soften. If the crystallinity is below 40%, the higher the value is, the higher the glass transition temperature will be.

5. The physical properties of nylon 6 spinning is affected

With the continuous increase of crystallinity, the corrosion resistance of chemical reagents, the prevention of gas leakage, and the dimensional stability of material parts also become better.
